A1 Traffic School

Traffic school is no fun, unless you’re into that kind of thing, but having to sit in a stuffy room for eight hours on a beautiful Saturday with a bunch of other speeders and stop sign runners is happily a thing of the past, now that the Internet exists. A-1 Traffic School is one of hundreds of online traffic schools you can choose from when you get busted for driving like a blockhead.

Is A-1 Traffic School Legit?

A-1 Traffic School is a service of A-1 Driving Traffic School, which has been in the business of teaching younguns to drive since six years before the Federal government mandated outfitting cars with seat belts in 1968. A-1 Traffic School is fully legit and licensed in every California county by the California DMV, making A-1 an A-OK choice for anyone in the state who wishes to take traffic school online.

Overview

First of all, if you live in the Los Angeles area and have nothing better to do on a Saturday from 9 to 5, you can take the comedy course at A-1’s Culver City location, which is officiated by comedian J.P., who also does standup in Pasadena. Just an idea. It’s got to be interesting, at least. But you’re probably hellbent on taking the course online, in the comfort of your pajamas, but take heart: The online course is a comedy course as well, and A-1 promises colorful graphics, interactive activities, and video clips to keep you from falling asleep and drooling all over your keyboard, which can short out your computer and is just plain gross. The course is designed to take around six hours to complete, but you can take it in short bursts, since your work is saved and you can log in and out as you please. You can also go back and review chapters you’ve already completed.

How it Works

After you complete the registration process, for which you will need your driver’s license information as well as some info you’ll find on your citation, you’ll be taken to the payment page, where you’ll fork over your $19.99, which includes the course, the final exam, and the transmission of your completion certificate directly to the DMV. Each chapter in the course is followed by a 3-question quiz that A-1 promises is easy and “thought provoking.” You must pass the quiz in order to proceed to the next chapter. When you’re finished with the course, you’ll take a 25-question, open-book final exam, which you must pass with at least a 70 percent. But you shouldn’t have any trouble with that, since you can go back and find the answers in the course material. If you end up failing the test anyway, which is highly unlikely, you can take it again, and if you fail that one, too, you’ll have to take the course again. So don’t guess on questions you’re not sure about. Take the time to go back and find the right answer, because nobody wants to be the person who couldn’t pass an open book traffic course exam twice. Once you’ve passed the course with flying colors, the DMV will be notified, and you’ll get a completion receipt by email, which you should print out and keep with your records, just in case.

A-1 Traffic School Customer Service

Lots of online traffic schools have 24/7 customer service, but A-1 traffic school isn’t one of them. In fact, they don’t really mention customer service at all. But you can email them or call for help during business hours, which are presumably from roughly 9 am to roughly 6 pm Monday through Friday and perhaps during some of the earlier hours on Saturday. And while you’re on the phone with them, will you let ’em know that they should put their business hours on their website? Thanks! Apparently, the school itself has great customer service, according to a lot of 5-star reviews on Google +, many involving one stellar driving instructor named Geo, whom people seem to really love. Eleven out of 15 Yelp reviewers gave A-1 five stars as well, and three gave them four stars. Again, the awesome Geo figures prominently in some of the reviews. One lady gave a one-star review because she claimed the driving instructor got her daughter in an accident on the I-10. Whatever, lady.

What We Like About A-1 Traffic School

We like that A-1 Traffic & Driving School has been in business since 1962. We like the reasonable price of $19.99 for the online traffic course, and we like that the course is funny, or at least attempts to be. How funny you can actually make online traffic school remains to be seen. The course is accessible 24 hours a day, of course, and it works on mobile devices.

What We Don’t Like About A-1 Traffic School

We’re not that happy with the A-1 Traffic & Driving School website, which is kind of busy and isn’t all that informative. They don’t even list their hours, for Pete’s sake. But it’s not the worst site we’ve seen, and since there’s a physical building involved and people actually go to work in person at said physical building, it surely can’t be that difficult to get ahold of them.

Rating For A-1 Traffic School

Legit? Check. Reasonably priced? Check. Mobile friendly? Check. Hilarious course that’ll keep you in stitches and leave you wanting more? Maybe! Excellent reviews for A-1 Driving School all over the Internet? Check! 24/7 customer service? No, but you can contact the school during business hours, whatever those are. We might have given this school five stars if they were a little more forthcoming with information, although their lack of info isn’t about trying to deceive, but rather about being a typical smallish business that maybe hires out the web design to someone’s niece, whose day job is selling insurance. Maybe. Either way, A-1 Traffic School gets a solid 3 stars, making this an average quality online traffic school.
