What are the driver’s education requirements for teens in Detroit, MI?

Teens who are at least 14 years and 8 months old may begin their driver education with their parent or guardian’s approval.

Michigan’s driver education program consists of two parts. The first half of the curriculum is the Segment 1 course. It consists of 24 hours of classroom instruction, 4 hours of observation, and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training.

How long does the Segment 1 course take?

Segment 1 of the approved driver education for Michigan takes approximately 3 weeks to complete. A student can only take up to 2 hours of instruction per day. Most driving schools spread the program over 3 weeks, 4 days a week.

What are the steps for obtaining a driver’s license in Detroit, MI?
